Bed? Pillow? OK then

We eventually got away at around 3AM from Tullamarine. Airports are such exciting places in the wee hours of the morning. You can sit and wait, or just for a change you can wait and sit. We did both...

A couple of technical hitches when we boarded (what - no screen ?????), but we eventually got it sorted (Thanks to the stranger who moved so we could sit together - you know who you are) After the obligatory movie, there were a few futile attempts at sleepimg. James won with a grand total of about 3 hours all up. the pilot made a lot of ground up so we landed at KL about on time...

Didn't cotton to the requirement that we needed to catch a train to immigration, so ended up at the back of the queue and had a 2 hour wait to get processed. James was delighted and to celebrate he learned the art of being totally asleep whilst standing up.

Had our first intro to KL taxis from the ariport and were pretty impressed. New, black, shiny and only exceeded speed limits by 20 - 30k. Hit the hotel - they never look as they appear on the web, but let us check in early for a much needed nap.

Surfaced about lunchtime and popped down to the local shopping centre (Times Square). This little place is 10 stories high, has a roller coaster and amusement park and would probably fit Chadstone in it's food court. Oh - and it has stuff to sell.

Caught the monorail down to Chinatown, a slight contrast to Times Square. This is more like the real Asia - a rambling market withh all the smells and bustle that goes with it. James loved it and it will be back to see more this morning.

Finished the day with the trip down to Sunway to see Sarah. It appears this place isn't the preferred destination for Taxi drivers and we had a one hour wait. When we got there we found out why. Lets just say it was 'interesting' and we're looking forward to her being home.

Shared a bottle of Chandon with her flatmates, and then went to a local eatery which was wonderful. Local beer in enormous glasses and the most amazing range of Asian Cuisine from every corner of the continent. James had a local satay, Michele the Iandian Dahl and a Vege Curry and I had a Vietnamise style chicken and rice. All cheap, all brought to your table and outside - perfect!!

The taxi ride home was less so - Downright scary. Small unroadworthy sedans, going as fast as the driver can make them in the great competition that is "push in front of the other bastard and brake late" Lanes - what lanes?????

We made it back alive and got our first real sleep for a few days....

  1. Is there anything more relaxing than sitting on the roadside terrace with a few cold Tiger lager's and saute chicken feet? In defence of taxi drivers maybe uni students aren't good tippers...
