From Order to Chaos

Monday 9th

Michele got up to farewell Sarah at 6 (She had an earlier fight out than us - back to KL) and then it was off to Changi Airport for the fight to Vietnam. A much less chaotic flight and we arrived safely as did Sarah. We negotiated a teksi and for $US 8 we made it to the Sanouva Hotel in Hi Chi Minh City. Sanouva is located in District 1, which is still known as Saigon to the locals.

This is one crazy place!!! 10 million residents and 5 million motorbikes, 4,500,000 of which were on the road from the airport to the Hotel. Everyone just drives and toots. Lanes mean nothing, people drive in all directions (including the opposite direction and perpendicular to the 'proper' direction) The pace is not too rapid, but the traffic flows and everyone seems to avoid each other.

Where we have 6 or 8 power lines at home, there are seemingly hundreds of cables between poles in this town. But power stays on and the Internet works.

We hit the Banh Tran markets straight after checking in. Luckily, it was only half a block away. This is a classic Asian market. Stall after stall of clothing, watches, sunglasses, trinkets and food. They loved James (handsome boy), and the stall owners constantly dragged him (and us) by the arm saying 'buy from me - good price'. We paid a little much for a few things first time around, but soon got the hang of it. a dozen pairs of jocks and a few shirts later, we headed ot to dinner at a plce in Pasteur St.

We all loved the food and the three of us were fed  and watered for about $12. We strolled around town for a ouple of hours afterwards and had the most delicious cold coffees and Caramels before heading to bed.
Bye Singapore

Michele got told off for taking this one
