The Werners in Asia: Thursday 19th - Happy Birthday Beautiful Girl

This was an important day. It was 21 years ago in Auchenflower, Queensland that out 4 lb bundle of joy was born. We were here to celebrate with her and she had chosen Thailand as the place to do so. Sarah, Felicity and John were due to arrive anout 3 PM from KL, so there was much to do.

We had a delightful breakfast served up by Seoh, a delightful fellow from the hotel and had a quick swin.

It was challenging - finding a cake and candles in Patong beach was the priority. We wlaked into town and waited untill 11 AM for the main shopping centre to open (everyone in Patong has a daoily hangover, so nothing opens early) No luck on the cake, but we found some candles in the local family mart and 8 ballons with animals on them in ther local middle eastern grocer. Michele got busy with the balloons, glitter, banners and '21' sparkles. At about ten to two, Steve ventured down to the local grocer and found 5 chocolate cupcakes - perfect!!!

To his horror, he spotted the 3 travellers in the foyer on the way back. The dots had lined up and they had arrived an hour early. A dash upostarirs to the room and there were soon hugs all round. Celebations had begun.

The travellers were hungry, so a late lunch was in order by the pool. Food was a bit more expensive than in Vietnam ($5 for a plate for a meal) but the food was scrumptious and plentiful.

We headed to the resort next door for a round of cocktails and headed for town for dinner. We ended up at a beachside rrestaurant and fed and watetred well. We kept the cockroaches at bat this time and caught a tuk tuk back to the hotel . These were crude vans with room for about 8 in the back and no seat belts - of course. Made it home alive and settled in for some sleep
